Sending Large Files from iPhone or Android
Video too large for WhatsApp? Photo compressed by email? This is how to send large files from your phone in their original quality.
The problem with sending files from a phone
Phones today shoot 4K video and 15+ megapixel photos. Beautiful, but it also makes the files large. And every method you normally use squeezes them:
- ✕ WhatsApp — compresses videos heavily, photos lose quality
- ✕ Email — 25 MB limit, photos are resized automatically
- ✕ iMessage — compresses images and videos when sending
- ✕ AirDrop — only works between nearby Apple devices
The solution: send via your browser
The easiest way to send a large file from your phone without quality loss is through a file transfer service in your browser. You do not need to install an app.
This is how you do it:
- 1. Open Safari (iPhone) or Chrome (Android)
- 2. Go to share2file.com
- 3. Tap the upload area and choose your file from Photos or Files
- 4. Copy the link and share it via WhatsApp, email or text message
iPhone: sending a large video
4K iPhone videos are easily 500 MB to several GB. This is how to send them without compression:
-
1
Open share2file.com in Safari
Tap the upload area — you get the option "Photo Library" or "Files"
-
2
Select your video from the Photo Library
The original quality is uploaded, nothing is compressed
-
3
Copy the download link
Share via WhatsApp, email or save it in Notes
Note for iPhone users: HEVC/HEIC files are supported automatically. You do not need to convert anything.
Android: sending large files
On Android it works exactly the same way via Chrome or another browser. An added bonus: Android has a better file manager, so you can also easily select files from other apps (such as WhatsApp downloads).
Tip for Android: When uploading, choose "Files" instead of "Gallery" if you want to select a specific file from a folder.
