Convert images: JPG, PNG and WebP without uploading

Wrong format, file too large, or need transparency? Convert your image for free in your browser — in seconds.

Why the format matters

You have a beautiful photo as a JPG, but the form only accepts PNG. Or you want a logo with a transparent background, but you only have it as a JPG. Or you want to put an image on your website and know that WebP is up to 30% smaller than JPG at comparable quality.

Choosing the right file format makes a big difference — for file size, quality and compatibility. But converting does not have to be complicated.

JPG, PNG or WebP: what are the differences?

JPG — ideal for photos

JPG uses lossy compression, which means some image information is lost when saving. With photos you barely notice that, but it produces a much smaller file. No support for transparency. Ideal for photos, product images and anything with lots of colours.

PNG — ideal for logos and transparency

PNG is lossless: quality is never lost, which makes the files larger. The big advantage is support for transparency (a see-through background). Essential for logos, icons and images placed on top of other images or coloured backgrounds.

WebP — ideal for websites

WebP is a modern format by Google that offers the best of both worlds: lossy and lossless compression, support for transparency, and files that are up to 30% smaller than JPG at comparable quality. All modern browsers support WebP.

Our image converter works entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image never leaves your device.

Every combination works

JPG → PNG, PNG → WebP, WebP → JPG — any combination works.

Quality setting

Set the quality from 10% to 100% for JPG and WebP. PNG is always lossless.

File size comparison

See right away how much larger or smaller the converted file is compared to the original.

Smart default format

The tool automatically suggests a format different from your input file.

How it works

  1. 1 Go to Convert image and drag your image into the upload box
  2. 2 Choose the output format you want (JPG, PNG or WebP) and set the quality
  3. 3 Click "Convert" and download your image in the new format

Note: JPG does not support transparency

Do you have a PNG with a transparent background and convert it to JPG? Then the transparency is automatically filled with a white background. JPG simply does not support transparency.

Want to keep the transparency? Then choose PNG or WebP as the output format.

Which quality setting is right?

For most uses a quality of 80-90% is the best choice. The difference from 100% is barely visible, but the file is considerably smaller.

For websites and email we recommend 80-85%. For print or archiving you are better off with 90-95%, or use PNG for lossless quality.

Update 2026: WebP supported in every browser

As of 2026 every modern browser fully supports WebP — including Safari on iPhone and iPad. That means you can choose WebP for websites and apps without hesitation: on average 30% smaller than JPG at comparable quality.

Still have old JPG or PNG files on your site? This is a good time to convert them to WebP for faster loading and higher Google PageSpeed scores.
